Behind the scenes of a Dignity Drive

Where Do Your Donations Go?

Where Your Donations Go

At Giving the Basics, we often hear people say, “I donated to a hygiene drive—what happens next?” Great question! Here’s a look at how your generosity moves from a donation bin to the hands of people who need it most.

From Donation to Distribution: The Journey of Dignity

Step 1: Collection & Sorting Volunteers and staff receive donated items from drives held by schools, companies, faith communities, and civic groups throughout the community. Products are sorted by category—soap, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent, and more—to ensure they’re ready for quick distribution.

Step 2: Inventory & Packing Once sorted, items are counted and packed into boxes for our partners. We work closely with schools, shelters, and local organizations to understand exactly what their community needs, so every box is purposeful and efficient.

Step 3: Delivery to Partners Our team delivers hygiene products to more than 300 schools and local agencies that directly serve families, seniors, and individuals in need. These partners are the heart of distribution—they know their communities and ensure items reach the right hands at the right time.

Step 4: Restoring Dignity in the Community This is where the impact becomes personal. A child can return to school with confidence. A parent can go to work without worry. A person experiencing homelessness can feel clean, cared for, and seen. Your donation becomes dignity.

What Your Donations Make Possible

Each product collected represents more than hygiene—it represents compassion, confidence, and hope. Here’s how common items make a difference:

  • Soap & Shampoo: Help kids feel confident at school and reduce health concerns.
  • Deodorant: Improves attendance, confidence, and participation.
  • Toothpaste & Toothbrushes: Encourage healthy habits and reduce dental pain.
  • Laundry Detergent: Keeps clothing fresh, which improves dignity and employability.
  • Feminine Care Products: Allow students and adults to participate fully in school and work.

Why Hygiene Drives Matter

Hygiene products are not covered by government assistance programs, which leaves many families struggling to afford the basics. Your drives help us close that gap. When we meet these essential needs, we remove barriers that keep people from living, learning, and working with dignity.

Want to Host a Drive?

Hosting a hygiene drive is a simple, powerful way to rally your team, neighbors, or students around a meaningful cause. We provide everything you need—collection bins, lists of most-needed products, and tips for a successful event. You can also host a Virtual Hygiene Drive, which makes it easy to donate items online and ship directly to our warehouse.

Join the Movement

Whether you donate, volunteer, or host a drive, you’re part of a community that believes everyone deserves dignity. Thank you for making hygiene possible for those who need it most.

Together, we’re turning everyday items into life-changing moments.

Bulk Hygiene Product Donations: Space and Impact

Bulk Warehouse Donations for non-profilts

In today’s fast-paced supply chain environment, manufacturers and distributors are always looking for ways to optimize warehouse space, manage inventory, and maximize impact. For those in the hygiene product sector, partnering with a 501(c)(3) hygiene charity like Giving the Basics offers a unique opportunity: you can free up valuable warehouse space while making a tangible, life-changing difference for individuals and families in need.

At Giving the Basics, we are proud to announce that we now have the space and capacity to accept large bulk donations of critical hygiene products, including full truckloads. For manufacturers and distributors, this means you don’t have to let surplus or slow-moving product take up valuable real estate in your facility. Instead, you can put those products to work changing lives.

Why Bulk Hygiene Donations Matter

When people think of basic needs, food and shelter usually come to mind. Yet hygiene items are just as essential. Toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and laundry soap all play a vital role in health, dignity, and confidence. Unfortunately, these items are not covered by government assistance programs like SNAP, leaving millions of people without consistent access.

By donating truckloads of hygiene products, corporations can fill this critical gap. Your corporate donations ensure that individuals don’t have to choose between paying rent and buying soap, or between putting food on the table and providing clean clothes for their children.

Impact at Every Level

One of the unique strengths of Giving the Basics is our reach. Thanks to our warehouse capacity and national partnerships, your bulk donations can make an impact at every level:

  • Local (Kansas City Metro): We distribute hygiene products directly to schools, shelters, and pantries serving families in our own community. Thousands of Kansas City students can walk into classrooms feeling clean and confident because of these donations.
  • Regional (Midwest): Through our expanding partnerships, bulk donations ripple out to surrounding states, amplifying your corporate impact across the Midwest.
  • National: Working with partner distributors nationwide, we can ensure your donated truckloads extend far beyond Kansas City. These products reach families in rural areas, urban centers, and communities facing urgent need all across the country.

This is not just a local act of generosity—it’s a nationwide movement of dignity, confidence, and hope.

A Win-Win for Manufacturers and Distributors

For manufacturers and distributors, donating in bulk is both practical and powerful. Instead of absorbing costs for storage, disposal, or markdowns on excess product, you can contribute to a 501(c)(3) hygiene charity that specializes in efficient distribution.

Giving the Basics has the warehouse space, volunteer power, and logistics network to handle truckload-sized donations quickly and effectively. That means your products move seamlessly from your shelves to the people who need them most.

Big Donations. Big Impact.

The scale of your donations directly translates to the scale of impact. One truckload of hygiene products doesn’t just help a handful of families—it can serve thousands of people for months at a time. These are critical donations that change the trajectory of lives, improving health outcomes, school attendance, employability, and overall well-being.

And the impact is felt on both sides: your organization saves space and resources, while communities nationwide gain access to dignity and hope.

Partner with Us

At Giving the Basics, we believe in the power of partnership. When manufacturers and distributors align with nonprofits like ours, everyone wins—families in need, communities across the country, and your organization.

If you are a manufacturer or distributor with hygiene products ready to move, we invite you to partner with us. Together, we can transform excess inventory into life-changing corporate donations. With our expanded warehouse capacity, we are ready today to accept your truckloads of critical hygiene items and ensure they reach those who need them most.

Giving the Basics is a 501(c)(3) hygiene charity headquartered in Kansas City with a mission to provide dignity, confidence, and health through access to hygiene products. Your bulk hygiene product donations are more than just space savers—they are life changers.

Kia America and the Accelerate the Good Program

Kia America Corporate Giving

Driving Dignity: How Kia’s Corporate Donation is Helping Fight Hygiene Poverty

Partner Spotlight: Kia America and the Accelerate the Good Program

At Giving the Basics, we fight hygiene poverty—the lack of access to essential hygiene products like soap, shampoo, deodorant, and toothpaste. These basic items may seem small, but for the children, families, and individuals we serve, they are life-changing.

Through the support of corporate donations, we’re able to reach more people, distribute more products, and expand our impact through Kansas, Missouri, and numerous other states across the country. One of the companies helping us do just that is Kia America.

Kia’s Corporate Giving is Fueling Change

As part of their national Accelerate the Good initiative, Kia America provides regional grants to nonprofit organizations that are making a real difference. When their Central Region team looked for partners to support, Giving the Basics was a natural fit.

“Giving the Basics helps people with basic, but critical, needs,” Russell Wager, vice president of marketing at Kia America shared. “Our goal was to find an organization aligned with our mission to deliver real community impact through corporate donations.”

Their generous support has allowed us to expand hygiene access to thousands of individuals struggling to meet their most fundamental needs—especially children in schools who are often too embarrassed to participate because they lack hygiene products.

A Shared Mission: Ending Hygiene Poverty

Hygiene poverty affects millions in the U.S., yet it often goes unseen. Children miss school, adults miss work, and families face shame over something as simple as not having soap or period products.

Kia America’s corporate giving strategy focuses on measurable social impact, and their investment in Giving the Basics aligns perfectly.

“Through Giving the Basics’ work to bring improved health, hope, and dignity to struggling children and adults, we knew they would be a great partner for us,” Wager said.

By supporting our mission, Kia is helping us to consistently meet the customized needs of more than 1,200 schools, shelters, police stations and pantries every single month. Their generosity has a ripple effect that is providing hygiene access to more than 3 million people.

Why Corporate Donations Matter—For Communities and Companies

At Giving the Basics, we see firsthand how corporate donations create lasting change for families in need—but we also know how powerful that support can be for the businesses who give.

Wager encourages other companies to get involved in the fight against hygiene poverty, emphasizing that the rewards go far beyond philanthropy:

“Supporting nonprofits like Giving the Basics is incredibly important. Providing hygiene products might seem simple, but many families are in crisis—and it’s comforting to know there’s a nonprofit actively helping during hard times.”

But the benefits aren’t just felt by the people receiving hygiene products. Corporate giving also creates real value for the companies doing the donating:

  • Boosts Brand Reputation:
Consumers and clients are increasingly loyal to brands that prioritize social impact. Partnering with a nonprofit like Giving the Basics demonstrates authentic commitment to addressing urgent community needs—like hygiene poverty—while strengthening public trust.
  • Enhances Employee Engagement:
Corporate donations often go hand-in-hand with volunteer opportunities and community involvement, which are proven to improve morale, retention, and team cohesion. When employees see their company making a tangible difference, they feel more connected to their work—and to each other.
  • Creates Meaningful Community Partnerships:
By supporting a mission-driven nonprofit, companies become part of a broader network of organizations working toward shared goals. These relationships can open doors for future collaborations, cross-sector partnerships, and new opportunities to make a difference locally.
  • Drives Purpose-Driven Growth:
Today’s customers—and employees—want to align with businesses that stand for something. Supporting nonprofits like Giving the Basics allows companies to live out their core values in visible, measurable ways, making social responsibility a foundational part of business strategy.

Gratitude for a Lasting Partnership

“Seeing the impact of our donation in the communities supported by Giving the Basics has been awesome,” Wager shared. “We’re proud to support their mission.”

We’re equally proud to call Kia a partner. Their belief in ending hygiene poverty through consistent, strategic giving is making a measurable difference.

Monthly Giving Helps Us Deliver Hygiene to Schools All Year

Why Monthly Giving Helps Us Deliver Hygiene to Schools All Year Long

As students prepare to return to the classroom, most are picking out new backpacks, shopping for school supplies, and looking forward to a fresh start. But for thousands of children across our region, back-to-school season is filled with anxiety—not about academics, but about hygiene.

At Giving the Basics, we know that clean hair, fresh breath, and basic self-care aren’t luxuries—they’re essential to a student’s success. That’s why we launched the Back to School Basics campaign—to invite supporters to become a part of the long-term solution in providing customized hygiene orders (not one-size fits all kits) for schools.

And it starts with one simple but powerful act: becoming a monthly donor.

Why Monthly Giving Makes the Biggest Impact

When you give monthly, you become more than a donor—you become a cornerstone of our mission. You ensure that kids have what they need not just for the first day of school, but every single day after that.
Here’s how your consistent support helps:

✅ Make a Year-Round Impact

Many students in our community rely on schools not only for meals and safety—but also for personal care. Your monthly gift ensures that every student has regular access to hygiene items that help them feel clean, confident, and ready to learn.

✅ Support Smart, Sustainable Growth
Monthly donations help us plan ahead and reduce costs. With predictable support, we can respond faster when schools request more products, expand to new districts, and reduce administrative overhead.

✅ Be Part of a Community That Cares

You’ll join the Hygiene Hub Club—a group of compassionate individuals committed to restoring dignity and confidence to children and families across the region.

Why Join the Hygiene Hub Club?

When you choose to give monthly, you become an essential part of our Hygiene Hub Club—a dedicated community of supporters helping us bring dignity, confidence, and health to over 1,200 schools, pantries, and shelters throughout our region. As a valued member, you’ll receive a personalized welcome packet, inspiring updates that show the real impact of your generosity, and exclusive invitations to special events that connect you even more deeply to our mission.

Who Are You Helping With Your Monthly Gift

Imagine this…a 12 year old girl, doing her best to make good grades as well as friends. In her home, soap is a luxury that mom can’t afford. At school, she fears the whispers of classmates—her hair unwashed, no deodorant. When her period hits, she uses folded tissues, skipping class to avoid shame. But she isn’t alone, thousands face this struggle every day.

With the help of Giving the Basics donors, students like her are finding relief, confidence, and dignity. Here is the story of one student who received the basics:

“Having access to hygiene products at school has really helped me. There were times I didn’t have what I needed, and it was embarrassing to ask for help. But thanks to Giving the Basics, I could get things like shampoo, deodorant, and even tampons without feeling ashamed. It made me feel more confident and comfortable at school. I’m really grateful for the support.”

When you give monthly, you’re helping students like this one every single month.

Why It Matters Now

Demand is surging—and in 2025 alone, over 225 Kansas schools have partnered with us to receive hygiene items. From students missing class to low self-esteem and health risks, the effects of hygiene poverty ripple far and wide.

“There’s nothing worse than seeing a student avoid participation because of body odor or lack of supplies,” one educator shared. “Access to hygiene changes everything.”

While back-to-school season is a natural moment to step up support, hygiene poverty doesn’t disappear after September. Monthly giving is how we keep up. It’s how we ensure no child walks into a classroom worrying about body odor or unwashed hair. It’s how we help students show up—*and belong.*

Ready to Join?

For as little as $12 a month, you can provide shampoo, feminine hygiene, and deodorant for a student.

For $25 a month, you can provide a full hygiene package with all the basics.

No matter your amount, your commitment creates lasting change.

🎒 This back-to-school season, let’s go beyond supplies. Let’s give confidence. Let’s give dignity. Let’s give the basics—together.

How In-Kind Donations Are Changing Lives

Giving the Basics

At Giving the Basics, we believe that every donor is a hygiene hero. But what exactly is an “in-kind donation”? Simply put, an in-kind donation is the gift of physical goods or services, rather than money. When you donate hygiene products—like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, or other personal care items—you’re providing something tangible that can directly support someone in need. These essential products, often donated in bulk, can make a huge difference in the lives of individuals struggling to access basic hygiene necessities. When companies and individuals contribute large-scale donations, they help ensure that those who are most vulnerable have access to the hygiene products they need to maintain their health, dignity, and confidence. Large in-kind donations are a critical part of our mission at Giving the Basics, allowing us to reach entire communities and make a lasting, meaningful impact.

The Power of In-Kind Donations

In-kind donations are tangible items—such as bottles of shampoo, bars of soap, or tubes of toothpaste—that enable us to provide essential personal care products to individuals in need. One exemplary partner in this effort is Cohere Beauty. They have made a significant impact through their in-kind donations, providing over 20 pallets of hair care products—shampoo, conditioner, and more—to Giving the Basics. As Greg Campbell from Cohere Beauty shared, “These products are often overlooked necessities that can significantly improve a person’s self-esteem, personal health, and ability to participate in everyday activities.”

By partnering with organizations like Giving the Basics,, companies like Cohere Beauty find a meaningful outlet for surplus, damaged, or excess inventory. Instead of letting these products go to waste, we are able to ensure they’re distributed to those who need them most. We make efficient use of these donated items by stockpiling them at local pantries, schools, senior centers, child welfare agencies, and police stations, directly supporting communities in need. This partnership helps businesses keep their operations running smoothly while also creating a tangible, positive impact on their local communities.

As Greg put it, “Rather than letting surplus products go to waste, we saw the perfect opportunity to support a cause providing access to the essentials that people truly deserve.” By contributing in this way, companies like Cohere Beauty not only help alleviate immediate needs but also strengthen community ties and enhance their corporate responsibility efforts.

Why Businesses Like Cohere Beauty Are Key to Our Mission

Cohere Beauty’s partnership with Giving the Basics is a prime example of how in-kind donations can play a major role in addressing hygiene poverty. Greg Campbell shared that their company’s values are rooted in giving, making partnerships with organizations like ours a natural extension of their mission: “We understand the importance of personal care and how essential products like shampoo and conditioner can restore dignity and confidence to those in need.”

By donating these vital products, Cohere Beauty doesn’t just provide goods—they’re creating real change. The donations foster a culture of giving and demonstrate the company’s commitment to reducing waste while supporting those who need it most. As Greg emphasized, “Contributing in-kind donations allows businesses and community members to strengthen local ties, support those in need, and reduce waste by repurposing surplus goods.”

The Impact of Large-Scale In-Kind Donations

While small, everyday donations have an immediate impact, large-scale donations are essential in fulfilling our mission to address hygiene poverty on a broader scale. Partnerships with companies like Cohere Beauty enable us to meet the needs of entire communities. As Greg Campbell from Cohere Beauty noted, “These products are more than just items—they represent dignity, confidence, and a foundation for better health.”

By donating surplus products, businesses like Cohere Beauty play a crucial role in combating hygiene poverty and ensuring that basic hygiene products are available to those in need. Their contribution helps support the larger movement to ensure no one is left without the hygiene products they deserve. Whether it’s a small donation or a large-scale partnership, every contribution makes a meaningful difference. These donations provide more than just physical goods—they offer hope, dignity, and the foundation for better health and well-being. As Greg said, “Acts of generosity foster a sense of social responsibility and boost employee morale, inspiring others and creating a ripple effect that leads to greater social impact and lasting positive change.” Every donation, big or small, helps create that ripple and contributes to a more equitable world.

Why Donate?

Giving back through in-kind donations strengthens communities, fosters a sense of social responsibility, and helps reduce waste by repurposing surplus goods. As Greg Campbell shared, “Contributing in-kind donations allows businesses and community members to support those in need and create lasting positive change.” Whether you’re an individual or a business, your contribution can help change lives, one hygiene product at a time.

Let’s work together to ensure hygiene essentials are accessible to all. Whether you’re making a small donation or contributing to larger-scale efforts, you’re part of a movement that’s changing lives and creating healthier communities.
