The People Behind the Numbers
September was another incredible month at Giving the Basics, and it would not have been possible without the volunteers who continue to show up, give their time, and help move our mission forward.
This month, 423 volunteers gave 653.5 hours of their time, helping us process an incredible 287,669 hygiene products.
Every product processed represents an essential item getting one step closer to someone who needs it. Every volunteer hour represents someone choosing to make a difference in their community.
These numbers tell a story of impact, but they also tell a story of people. This month, we’re excited to recognize a few of the volunteers who made an especially meaningful difference through our September Volunteer Awards.
Volunteer MVP & Community Builder Award: VML
VML volunteers made an incredible impact in September, with 40 volunteers helping process 73,272 hygiene products.
Their time and teamwork helped move tens of thousands of essential hygiene products through our warehouse and one step closer to the people and communities who need them.
We’re grateful for VML’s commitment to showing up, working together, and helping build a stronger community through service.

Impact Story Award: Holmes Murphy
Sometimes, the impact of volunteering goes beyond the products processed or the hours spent in our warehouse. It changes the way someone sees the need in their own community.
One Holmes Murphy volunteer shared:
“This organization helps so many with things that not just make them look good, but feel good. The support they provide the community is unmatched and I truly love volunteering here. Giving the Basics is a KC staple and they truly help the lives of those in our community who have a need for GTB.”
That perspective captures why volunteer experiences matter.
Basic hygiene products do more than meet a physical need. They can help someone feel clean, confident, prepared and cared for.
We’re grateful to the Holmes Murphy team for spending time with us and for recognizing the broader impact of making these essentials accessible to people in our community.
Partnership in Action Award: Indigo Wild
Indigo Wild has been an incredibly generous in-kind donor to Giving the Basics, helping provide thousands of essential products that reach people throughout our community. It also doesn’t hurt that their product makes our warehouse smell so wonderful!
This month, their support went beyond the products they donate. The Indigo Wild team came to Giving the Basics to volunteer their time and help us process and prepare products for distribution.
It’s partnerships like this that make such a meaningful difference. When organizations give both their resources and their time, they help strengthen the entire system that connects essential hygiene products with the people who need them.
We’re grateful to the Indigo Wild team for continuing to support Giving the Basics in more ways than one.
